Remote Virtual Inspection (RVI)

Rum River Consultants now offers Remote Visual Inspections (RVI) for certain inspection types.

RVI is a convenient alternative for homeowners and contractors to traditional on-site visits.

What is an RVI?
A Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) lets a licensed building inspector review certain construction phases using contractor or owner-submitted photographs, replacing an in-person site visit. Instead of scheduling a site visit, the applicant will submit the required photos through Baseline at the scheduled stage for the inspector's review. RVI submissions meet the same code standards as traditional in-person inspections.

How to Request a Remote Virtual Inspection

1. Confirm eligibility. Make sure that your permit qualifies for RVI. Not all inspection types are approved for photo-based review.

2. Take your photos. Follow the instructions included in the paperwork for what pictures are required for each type of inspection.

3. Log in to Baseline at rrc.baselinegov.com and click View Your Permits.

4. Select your permit, then click the Inspection Record tab.

5. Click Schedule an Inspection and follow the prompts to enter your contact information and submit your photos for a Remote Virtual Inspection (RVI)

6. Wait for your result. Your inspector will review the photos and issue a pass, a correction notice, or a request for additional images. Results are typically returned within one to two business days.

Important Notes

• All photos must be clear, well-lit, and taken at the angles specified in the program documents for
your inspection type.

• Photos can be submitted individually, or in a PDF document.  We cannot accept ZIP files of photos
• Submitting incomplete or unclear photos may result in a failed inspection or a request to
schedule an in-person inspection instead.
• RVIs are only available for the inspection types listed above.
• All inspections must be requested and scheduled through Baseline after permit issuance.
